The PASC U13G Vipers travelled to Limerick, Pa this past weekend to participate in the 2016 Battle at Hilltop Tournament. The Girls had an outstanding tournament this weekend and finished as Finalist in the Premier Bracket!
The first opponent was Southern Chester County Soccer Association. This was the first time the Vipers were playing “large-sided” soccer. Both teams struggled with size of the field and offensive possession. A defensive battle ensued, ending in a 0-0 draw.
The second game was against Marple-Newtown Soccer Association. The girls play improved, along with their confidence, as they continued to explore the intricacies of large-sided play. Better spacing allowed them to start connecting passes and created opportunities to "go to goal". This led to a 2-0 victory.
A win and a draw on Saturday, set up a great challenge for the Vipers in their third game. The opponent was Methacton United Soccer Association with the Vipers needed a win to advance to the finals. Both teams played aggressively and battled to a draw through the first half. The Vipers turned it up a notch in the second half and everything started to come together. They pressured the ball to create turnovers and built strong runs of possession by connecting passes and good movement. This led to a 1-0 victory and a shot at the finals.
In the Finals the girls played FC Berna Legacy Black from NJ. This game was a real challenge for the Vipers. Unfortunately, FC Berna and the long weekend were a little too much for the Vipers as they lost the championship game.
Coaches planned to use this tournament as a measuring stick to assess where the girls are developmentally. Team play improved with each game. Just like the previous years, the girls have raised the bar and our expectations for the rest of the fall season and the entire year at U13.
We are extremely proud of these girls and all of their efforts this weekend!
Great Job Vipers!
