New Director of Coaching and Player Development Hired

April 2013

The Parkland Area Soccer Club (PASC) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the hiring of Patrick Birns as Director of Coaching and Player Development. Patrick will begin his new duties effective April 1, 2013.

As Director of Coaching, Patrick will set expectations for overall player development, including training strategies and age-appropriate curriculums. He will spread the organization’s vision and provide education, training and leadership for the club’s volunteer coaches.

Patrick has been involved with PASC for several years, most recently helping with the winter iSoccer Skills Program and U8 Academy Training Sessions. In his thirteen years of coaching Patrick has served as Director of Coaching, Summer Camp Coach, Academy Coach, Head Coach, Team Trainer and Player Selection Committee member. He has been Head Coach of the Parkland High School Varsity Boys Soccer team since 2011.

Coach Birns holds various advanced soccer coaching certificates: a National “B” License, an Advanced National License from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and Goalkeeper Level II from NSCAA. He has earned Bachelors and Masters degrees in health and physical education from East Stroudsburg University, where he also played varsity soccer.

Patrick spent nine successful years as head soccer coach at Delaware Valley High School and was director/owner of the Total Soccer Academy. At Delaware Valley, Coach Birns compiled a record of 100-70-14 and won the 2005 Class AAA District 2 championship. Patrick has taught and coached at numerous camps and clinics in the United States and abroad.

Coach Birns is the current Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association Committee Chairperson for both the Ethics and Statistics committees. He is a current member of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Coaches’ Advisory and Soccer Steering committees.

PASC takes pride in our all-volunteer coaches. Occasionally, Patrick may join the ranks of our volunteers to coach members of his own family, separate from his role as Director of Coaching. If you see Patrick on the pitch taking in a practice or game, please take a minute to welcome him to our club.

Congratulations Patrick and welcome aboard!
