Sandy Hook Elementary School, Conn., the site of December’s tragic events is approximately 30 minutes from Quinnipiac University and has a couple of close connections to our soccer program.
The 2011 captain, Kyla Miles went to Sandy Hook and knew a number of the victims while the 2000-2002 captain, Lauren Carmody lost her cousin, Rachel D’Avino, a teacher, in the shooting.
Quinnipiac Soccer has been collecting soccer shirts from clubs and teams around the world to auction off for the benefit of the victims and survivors. To date the soccer community has committed over 100 shirts to the auction including signed shirts from Lionel Messi, Tottenham Hotspur, Celtic, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and the US Men’s and Women’s National Teams.
On Thursday, March 14, three months to the day of the tragedy the SHES26 Soccer Auction went live at www.biddingforgood.com/SHES26Soccer.
The proceeds of the shirt auction will be used to establish a scholarship account at Quinnipiac University and will be named in honor of Rachel. For further details please visit www.shes26soccer.com.
