Changes Coming to Youth Soccer in 2016
Member Families,
As some of you may be aware, US Youth Soccer has updated the standards that govern youth soccer. The changes increase youth soccer’s focus on small sided games and change the grouping of players back to a calendar year format. You can read in detail about the changes coming to youth soccer in 2016 at http://www.usyouthsoccer.org/changes_coming_to_youth_soccer_in_2016.

Parkland Area Soccer Club awarded $8000 from EPYSA Development Grants Program
From the left: Mike Rose, President; Don Penrod, Fields; Linda Dean, Bookkeeper; Mike Finnegan, EPYSA
Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer launched the Development Grants Program in late 2013. The first year proved to be a rounding success. Eleven different clubs from across the region received grants that went to projects ranging from field development and lighting to upgrades for pavilion and concession facilities.
The total amount to be awarded in 2015 will be $75,000.
Among many criteria, applicants must demonstrate their own financial and human resources commitment to the project. In addition, they must outline how the project will positively impact their soccer organization as well as the growth of the sport within their respective communities.
Parkland Area Soccer Club Board of Directors asked Linda Dean, the club’s Bookkeeper along with Don Penrod, the club’s Field Coordinator and Bert Mukkulainen, a past President and one of the club’s founders to head this project. After hours of meetings and few reiterations the papers were ready to submit for consideration and review.
After a few months, we are pleased to announce that Parkland Area Soccer Club was awarded $8,000 to be used for field development - Great Job Team! As you can see in the picture, Mike Finnegan presented PASC the check on Wednesday October 21st at the general board meeting.
PASC has earmarked the money for field improvement at the Springhouse fields, where some work has already begun and will continue through the fall and next spring.

Heroes Wanted
Dear Parents,
As you may know, the 2015 Spring Soccer registration has come to a close. We have seen unprecedented registrations numbers this Spring which means we will be needing more parent volunteers to help coach the children.
Kids love it when their parent is their coach!
This is a great opportunity for you to spend time with your children and the Parkland Area Soccer Club will provide you with the necessary tools for you to succeed and to feel confident about coaching a team. We also offer practice schedules, coaching plans and direct access to our Director of Coaching, Patrick Birns who is also the Varsity coach at Parkland High School, should you need assistance or have any questions or concerns.
Here are the age groups where we need heroes to step up:
- In-House:Micro and Kinder = We need 4 coaches
- U7 = We need 2 Coaches
- U8 Boys = we need 1 coach
- Recreational:U10 Boys = We need 1 coach
- U12 Boys= We need 1 coach
- U14 Boys = We need 1 coach
Total Heroes needed is 10
If we are unable to accommodate the amount of players that registered with enough coaches, we will consequently have to either refund last registrants (which means they will not play for PASC this season) or players will see limited playing time because of maximum roster size limitations would have been met. Please contact PASC as soon as possible should you reconsider.
To read more, visit our web site at www.parklandsoccer.org and look under the “COACHES” drop down.
